What I find interesting about studying History
Hi, everyone! My name is John(Yohan) Jin. I am an international student from South Korea. This is my second semester at MiraCosta College. I am so honored to be part of this program and have an opportunity to participate in History Honors Community.
From the time I was young, I was interested in history. History tells the stories of people, ideas, and the causes of events, and it can also teach us to avoid the same mistakes in the future. The reason I like history so much is that it boosts my imagination and increases my desire to visit historical sites around the world.
My interest i
n history greatly increased during my military duty in South Korea. Because when I was in the Intelligence, I learned deeply about the modern history of North East Asia. How historic events shaped and connected to the current problems in North East Asia. I have a huge interest in learning about modern North East Asian history, Japanese Imperialism, Japanese’s rule(colonial period), WWII, the spread of communism, Korean War, Cold War, and a current triangular relationship between Korea(South and North), China and Japan. And the important role of the United States and Russia in North East Asia as well.
I would like to major in History and Political Science, so I can fully understand the problems and be part of government so I can participate and perhaps influence the future.
Thank you!
John, welcome to the History Honors Community. I’ve always found Korean history very interesting. I try and bring some of it to my world history courses. I think that your career goals are excellent.
