Library Orientation

Hi guys, sorry I’ve been MIA. Here now though!!

Last week my class attended a meeting with Professor Sleeper and a reference librarian. It was really helpful! Steven suggested that we create a key word cloud for our topics when conducting data base searches, which is something I have never even considered. Because my topic is relatively narrow, sometimes finding law review articles is difficult, but I am now much more comfortable. Another thing he suggested was requesting interlibrary loans for books or articles that MiraCosta does not have. My project examines the legal aspects of the Vietnam War, and many of the sources I need are only available in law libraries. Thanks to the help of the librarians at MiraCosta, I received my first interlibrary loan just three days after my request was processed! I believe I just got lucky as the book only came from Point Loma and I in no way expect this to happen again. I have also been visiting the University of San Diego’s legal research center as it is easily accessible with the coaster, and they are usually open from 8AM-12AM. I am planning on going next Friday if anyone would like to join me.
