Hi! My name is Darlene Burke. I am Associate Faculty in the Nursing & Allied Health Department at MiraCosta College (MCC). This semester, I am not teaching an online course. However, there is a very strong chance that I will teach a nursing course online within the next year.
Also, I am currently in the dissertation phase of an on-line doctoral program in education offered by Capella University. As such, I have had the benefit of being the recipient of online instruction.
I have “lots” to learn with regard to online teaching and am therefore interested in all aspects of the course. I look forward to learning from you and with you this semester.
This blog has been written from my home in Carlsbad, CA.
Hello Darlene, I hope we can have more discussions as I am interested to find out about your experience of teaching for nursing/allied health professionals and of your own professional studies. I teach o a masters programme in public health, at the University of Manchester. The programme is a fully online distance learning programme, and I taken this qualification myself in the past. So I have experience of online learning as a student, and now as a tutor/lecturer. I still have much to learn, especially around the educational theory side of things. One of the reasons I am taking this POTCert course is to then see if I want to sign up to do a more formal and intensive qualification. But nothing as grand as a PhD – I’m not doing another one of those.
What type of courses have you taught at Miracosta College? I haven’t looked into the type of college that Miracosta is, and I’m not fully informed about the different educational systems in America.
Chat soon no doubt.
regards
Roger
Hi Roger,
As I live in Carlsbad, California my greetings to you are from across the pond and then across the U.S. to the west coast.
Mira Costa College is a two-year community college. I have been teaching at the school as adjunct faculty since I retired from the United States Navy in 2006. As part-time faculty, I have been used as a “utility player” and have provided instruction in the classroom.
I look forward to chatting with you as the training progresses.
My best,
Darlene
