This is an excellent presentation, combining expert pedagogical approaches with a strong viewpoint and good evidence, both primary and secondary, to show how public health responsibilities we take for granted now were established in Victorian England.
On the issue of quantitative data, I believe that John Snow’s 1854 map would be a bit earlier than Mayhew’s map, so both are really representative of the efforts to visually demonstrate problems of poverty and disease.
Your information on Snow was particularly interesting, in that you made connections that showed his training was inadequate to the task, and that his intelligence and creativity made advancements possible. I’ve always been a huge fan.
I like especially how you have combined the data with satirical cartoons and literature to show how widespread both the concerns and reforms really were.
Overall this presentation was simply outstanding. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
