This week in Honors: February 5
Hello,
Please reply to this, either on the blog or by email, if you receive this post by email – I tried to subscribe everyone but it may not have worked!
Welcome to this week in Honors History. Thanks to Kaitlin, Gabriela, and Alex for their introductory posts on the blog! Please do reply to each other. SooAh and Angelica are working on technical problems, and I’m trying to help, so I think we’ll all manage at least one post by the end of the week. 🙂
This week you should be reading Frankenstein, and should be well started at this point. We have two weeks for each reading, but they overlap with The Victorians so be sure to plan ahead.
Prompts for posts are on the Syllabus – I may add to these, but you should feel free to use them as jumping-off points rather than set questions. Each of us has an area of interest – Gabriela’s is biology, mine is education. Choosing a topic you can follow through the parent course is something you need to do anyway – if this overlaps with the Honors interest, so much the better!
So I’ve gotten everyone’s schedule, and it looks like A Tuesday or Thursday afternoon might work, and I might want to do an evening one too. At the moment I’m thinking Thursday at noon. Don’t worry if you can’t make it – I would just like to offer a chance for us to see each other and talk a bit. I think in Zoom I can record it too. So I’ll send out an email Wednesday to confirm.
Happy reading and posting!
Hello, Lisa,
I didn’t receive an email, but I think that’s probably my profile settings. I’m looking forward to discussing Frankenstein with everyone.
Hi! OK, I’ve changed the email settings again, so we’ll see what happens…
I’m not sure if this is a good place on the blog to leave this, but here is a link to a recent New Yorker article on Mary Shelley’s experience writing Frankenstein.

Hi everyone! For some reason I didn’t get an email to notify me of this post. I do get email notifications when people make new comments on my posts. Are we having a meeting tomorrow? Or did you mean Thursday of next week? Thank you so much!
Gabriela Lipson
Hi Gabriela – yes, I will be online tomorrow in Zoom – I will post and email the URL shortly before noon. Anyone who can join us is welcome! Those who can’t are not to worry – we’ll have other options later.
Professor Lane,
Great! I can come to campus tomorow I think. What room will the meeting be in? 🙂
Thank you,
Gabriela
The meeting is online – I’m not on campus on Thursdays. It’s a synchronous meeting in an online “room”, in a web space called Zoom. You’ll need to have camera and microphone enabled on your computer.
Oh great! Thank you for the clarification. I’ll tune in then.
