WEEK 3 – POTCERT – COURSE DESIGN

I was looking back at my previous attempt at the POT course for week 3.  I was definitely overwhelmed with the wealth of information.  I have had a year to work on my Blackboard site and am pretty comfortable with the content.  I have added to my medical billing and coding class a resource center with information from Youtube videos, professional billing sites and cms.gov, which is the national billing information site.  I have spent a significant amount of time collecting really great video presentations.  This, as you all know, takes a long time to weed out the material that is basically advertisements or just not appropriate material.  I Bookmark sites and then pull them into my Blackboard site as need.   I also use Diigo to store great sites.

I have been building a new site at Palomar College for a totally online course.  I have added videos of me with opening introductions and a graded Blackboard intro from the students.  I have added many Youtube videos for added explanation for textbook concepts.  I have organized the site into weekly graded assignment postings along with an announcement with extra instructions and words of encouragement.  I also like to link to tutorials from the book publisher or other educational sites

I have much to learn but certainly I am much better prepared to make the students’ experience much more engaging.  I learn so much each week and will continue to add to my site as the semester progresses.  I now have a clue.
